My morning meditation in the longest dark ended in watching the live broadcast of winter solstice at Newgrange. Even in a removed computerized way, watching the sun making its way through a tiny entrance box down the 62 foot passage way and into the chamber of the ancient Irish tomb symbolizes a return to light and life; and the metamorphosis called death. It is a poignant reminder of ancestral impermanence and survival, spiritual renewal, as well as unexplainable brilliance in the architecture. How does a 5,000 year old stacked stone structure the size of a football field not have even the slightest leak in the harsh Irish weather? Unfortunately, I don’t have such impermeability with my newly built timber yoga studio. Or in myself.
With the 20 minute window of potential to radiate the chamber closing in, the sun brilliantly satisfied all as the VIP guest! This year, there was a visual reminder of how a minute bit of radiance seeps in for the spiritual win. A Winter Solstice celebration!
Yet, here I am again. Reminding myself to breathe out the portrayal of fear. To talk less and listen more to the unspoken. One request professes to live in peace. The latter is to passively protect. Close the mouth and eyes. Use the nose and ears. It is that simple. Make the choice to receive limitless vital force while practicing restraint.
Primordial rhythms elaborately encased by the ancients tell me that the light returned today. NewGrange has done that for 5,000 years; How many have been held and marveled with celebration? I am a spec in the lightyears of the sun. Yet, in human form, existence happens in the liminal space between dark and light. Relying on the sun that may or may not appear to create a spectacular show is the false hope of not feeling pain. The gift of life is mine again today if I go beyond duality.
Today I celebrate my new year. I invite you to join me
Peace and Light, Megan
